Gamba Osaka increased their lead at the top the J-League from last year's champions Urawa Reds. Gamba beat JEF 2-1 away, while Reds had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home with Yokohama F Marinos.

Ardija's form under new coach Robert Verbeek continues to improve after a late equalizer earned a point away to Frontale. JEF, Ardija and FC Yokohama all have 10 points at the bottom of the pile.

In J2, Consadole now have a 10-point lead over the chasing pack of Sendai Vegalta, Montedio and Kyoto Sanga.
