Soccer - Ancelotti happy to counter Bayern

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is confident his side have the right tactics to defeat holders Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals. The Spaniards will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg in Germany next week, having secured a narrow victory in the Bernabeu thanks to a Karim Benzema goal in the first half.

Ancelotti, whose side are now 4/6 with bet365 to reach the final, believes that his side are right to defend deep against the reigning European champions and hit them on the counter in the Allianz Arena next Tuesday. The Italian said: "Against Bayern it's normal to use the counter and it means you have to defend well. The deeper you defend, the better. "Football isn't just about controlling the ball, it's defence and counter-attack too. An old coach said when you have the ball the opposition have no chance to score."
